A COMMUNITY group raised £800 for a charity which helps people suffering from debilitating illnesses.
The Hastings Residents Forum chose the Sara Lee Trust, based in Upper Maze Hill, St Leonards, as its charity of the year oover the last 12 month and handed over a cheque to charity representatives.
The group held charity events throughout the year, which included a Christmas fundraiser featuring a large raffle with almost 50 prizes donated, thanks to the generosity of local businesses and residents.
Money will be used to provide complementary therapies, creative arts therapies, counselling and sanctuary days to local people living with cancer, motor neurone disease or HIV/Aids.
Maria Gonet, fundraising manager for the Sara Lee Trust, said: “In this difficult economic climate, the charity is struggling, and support from local groups such as the Hastings Residents Forum is so gratefully received and very much needed.”
