‘Forgotten’Wick war memorial to be restored

Littlehampton Town Council has been given the funding by the War Memorials Trust for conservation of the Wick Memorial Plaque, which has been in safekeeping at Littlehampton Museum since 2009, when it was rescued from a cupboard at Wick Hall.

The town council will match the funding for the restoration work of what it describes as “this hugely important memorial for the Wick community”.

An addendum will also be created, with the names of the men who were omitted from the original memorial when it was created soon after the First World War.

After the restoration is completed, the town council plans to re-mount the plaque in Wick, where it can once again be a focal point for the Armistice Day commemorations there. It is hoped that work will be start within the next two months, and be completed in time for Armistice Day in November.
