Fire crews carry out simulated exercise in Hastings

Firefighters carried out an exercise last Wednesday (June 3) in Hastings.

The aim of the exercise, which took place in Middle Road, was for the crews to simulate search and rescue techniques.

Firefighters from Blue Watch at Bohemia Road and The Ridge stations took part in the simulation.

Five dummies were hidden within a smoke filled building for the crews to recover.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reel and one in seven foam during the exercise in order to rescue the “casualties.

Alan Birtwistle, crew manager for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, said: “It is vital we carry out training exercises to ensure we are fully prepared for emergencies. Important skills are tested when we complete these simulations such as our search and rescue techniques when locating casualties. We would like to thank The Park Lane Group for allowing us the use of its building.”
