Festive fun night planned

ALL the fun of the fair will be on offer during the late night Christmas shopping event in Uckfield next week.

The bottom of the town's High Street is due to be closed to traffic on Friday (December 13) between the NatWest Bank and Stead and Simpson and among attractions will be children's rides including a 90 foot long giant slide.

Other attractions will include side shows, roundabouts, street entertainers, face painting, local charity stalls, roast chestnuts, mulled wine and, of course, Father Christmas.

There will also be live music from The River Boys, a band from Eastbourne, and carol singers from the town's own churches.

Already adding to the town's festivities is improved Christmas lighting with new motifs on lamp posts and some displays stretching across the High Street.

Chamber of Commerce president Adrian Corbin said he thought this could be the first time part of the High Street had been closed to traffic for the late night shopping event and he hoped it would make the shopping experience more fun.

His message to townspeople is: 'Come along and enjoy yourself.' Events will run from 6.30 to 9pm.
