Felpham man recognised for his services to Scouting

A Felpham man has received one of the highest honours in Scouting.

Dennis Peerman has been awarded the Bar to the Silver Acorn in the movement's St George's Day awards for this year.

The awards are given by the Chief Scout to those who have been recommended by their county commissioners. The Bar to the Silver Acorn is awarded for 'continued specially distinguished services to Scouting'. It is the second-highest award in the movement.

Dennis's recognition is mainly for his role as the chairman of the finance committee of Surrey Scouts, which he still supports after moving to Limmer Lane from Epsom in 2004. He was awarded the Silver Acorn the previous year.

Dennis, 67, has been involved with Scouting for more than 30 years in various non-uniformed roles.

As well as being involved with the Scouts, he is also a member of Felpham Parish Council and chairs its finance and administration committee. His community involvement extends as well to being a governor at Downview Primary School.

Former accountancy worker Dennis said: "Since moving to the coast on a permanent basis when retiring, I was determined to use the skills and knowledge I acquired during my professional career for the benefit of the community locally."
