Felpham church musicians' bid to buy a new organ

Church musicians in Felpham will be pulling out all the stops on September 19 to buy a new organ.

They will be staging 12 hours of music in St Mary's Church to raise money for the new instrument.

The 'organathon' will start at 7am. Music is being provided by James Rushman, the church's musical director, guest organists and instrumentalists as well as some vocal items.

Evensong will be sung by the church choirs and Father Bert Cooper at 6pm to end the event.

Derek Yeates, from the church, said: "The existing church organ has been giving cause for concern for some years now. James together with the rector, Father Timothy Peskett, sought advice from the Chichester diocesan organ adviser, Dr Alan Thurlow, who says the instrument should be replaced.

"The 'organathon' is among a number of planned fundraising ideas. People are warmly invited to pop into the church during the day to enjoy the music. Refreshments will be available, starting with breakfast, at 8am."
