Fear of being 'swallowed up' by housing

Campaigners fear that Thakeham village will be destroyed and absorbed into a new town if a large scale development goes ahead at Haveco mushroom site.

Thakeham Village Action has highlighted residents' concerns for the future and has warned that the village could become the third area of conurbation being incorporated into an expanded Storrington, eventually making a new town.

Rydon Homes Ltd and Beamsyne Ltd have both expressed interest in developing the site if Haveco moves its operations to the Brinsbury campus.

Rydon Homes is proposing up to 80 homes on the Abingworth farm site, which has been vacant for some time. But Beamsyne says it wants to work with Horsham District Council and the community to redevelop the entire site.

Jean Locker of Thakeham Village Action has warned that a large-scale development would erode the parish boundaries between Thakeham and Storrington, leading to an urban mass.
