A FATHER-OF-TWO will be getting on his bike and taking part in a cycle challenge in a bid to raise money for a national charity and raise awareness about one of the UK’s biggest killers, heart disease.

Delivery driver Joe Collett-Leslie, 41, of Catsfield Close, will participate in the 2014 London to Brighton Cycle Ride for the British Heart Foundation, a charity he supports after losing his father Christopher Welltert to heart disease.

Joe said: “My dad was healthy, to look at him you wouldn’t have known. He died of a heart attack in 2002 and after a post mortem they found that he had had heart disease for 30 years.

“I am doing this for the British Heart Foundation and I am hoping to raise as much money as I can. I am looking forward to it but it’s a long way so I am hoping I can complete it! I work quite long hours but I have been training when I can, going on long bike rides and cycling several hours each time.

“I want to raise as much money as I can for the charity but I also want to raise awareness about heart disease and the importance of keeping healthy and doing exercise like cycling.”

The BHF is the UK’s leading heart charity and has funds cutting edge research into heart disease and provide up-to-date information on the condition, which causes around 82,000 deaths each year. To sponsor Joe visit: wwwjustgiving.com/matthew-joe-collett-leslie1.
