Exhibition to show how mall began

An exhibition of photographs relating to the creation of Priory Meadow shopping centre will take place in the mall next weekend.

Garry Corboy lived opposite the old Central Cricket Ground in Devonshire Road while it was demolished around 1996 and 1997.

He used to take photographs of the site while the demolition work was taking place to make way for the new shopping centre.

Priory Meadow opened in 1997 and Garry kept a number of the colour photographs he took as the time.

Garry, who now lives in St Leonards, said: “I used to look over from my living room and see the development of the shopping centre taking place. I decided to put on an exhibition of the photos I took at the time. They are all colour photos and it is quite interesting to see the changes. There are two phases to the exhibition - the first is the demolition of the cricket ground and the second the building of the shopping centre.”

The exhibition runs next weekend. The Central Cricket Ground exhibition runs on Saturday (April 11) from 9-5.30pm. The shopping centre exhibition takes place on the Sunday (April 12) from 10-4pm.
