A FORMER corporal and his wife, who have lived in the same house since they tied the knot, are celebrating 60 years of marital bliss.
George and Margaret Dunk (pictured), of Parker Road, marked their diamond wedding anniversary on January 10 but will be holding a party on February 8 for family and friends to coincide with Margaret’s 80th birthday, which is on February 6.
The couple first met at the funfair in Hastings in 1950 and married three years later at Calvert Memorial Church.
George, who was born in Battle, was in the Army from 1948 to 1953, based near Monchengladbach in Germany. He then worked for British Gypsum in Robertsbridge for 36 years from 1961.
Margaret, who was born in Willingdon Avenue, St Leonards, was working at Hollington Laundry, Battle Road, when she met her future husband, before moving to several other jobs in town.
Margaret said the secret to a long marriage was ‘give and take’ and, if you argue, to always make up before the end of the day.
The couple have three sons, a daughter, 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
