Sharpen your pencils and head on down to the Hastings Arts Forum, Marina, St Leonards on Sea, this weekend and take part in The Big Draw.
Initiated by internationally renowned illustrator and Hastings resident Quentin Blake in 2000 The Big Draw has since grown from 160 events in the UK to around 1,500 worldwide.
Local artist and one of The Big Draw organisers, Jo Welsh, says this is a community event that connects people of all ages. “The Big Draw is for families with children, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and really anyone who wants to be involved in a fabulously fun day of drawing, painting and generally making a mess,” she said. “The overriding principle of The Big Draw is that Everyone Can Draw.
“Everyone is invited and it’s free!”
She added: “In 2013, Hastings Arts Forum ran a hugely successful Big Draw event, where dozens of Hastings and St Leonards’ families came into the Forum over a weekend to draw and have fun.”
The theme for this year’s Arts Forum Big Draw, which will be held this Saturday and Sunday October 24-25, 10-4pm, is ‘Every drawing tells a story’. All art materials will be provided on the day.
Joe said: “People will be encouraged to tell a story about themselves. It could be their journey to the Arts Forum; an adventure at school; a recent family holiday; really anything!”
“Professional artists with Big Draw experience will be on hand to encourage, help and inspire everyone throughout the day assisting people to create their own original artwork, which will be on display in the Art Forum Galleries for a week.
“All anyone needs to bring is their enthusiasm and a desire to have fun!”
