EU referendum debate at Sussex Coast College Hastings

A debate on whether the UK should leave the European Union (EU) or not will be held next month at Sussex Coast College.

The discussion on Friday, June 3, which starts at 10am and ends at noon, is being chaired by the principal of the college, Clive Cooke, with three speakers on both sides of the panel.

Hastings and Rye MP, Amber Rudd, borough councillor Peter Chowney, and a college student will represent the Stronger In campaign and Andrew Michael, a college student and a further representative will represent the Vote Leave campaign.

Ms Rudd said: “The campaign on both sides of the European Union referendum is hotting up. We only have less than 40 days left until polling day, which is June 23. I have been and will continue to campaign to remain in the EU and I urge all undecided residents in Hastings and Rye to come to this debate and listen to both sides of the argument before making a decision.”

In order to vote in the referendum, you must have registered to vote by Tuesday, June 7 but if you are wanting to vote via a post or proxy vote you must register by Friday, June 3. You can register to vote by logging onto www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Some questions will be submitted beforehand by college students, but questions will also be taken from the floor on the day by the chairman.

In attendance will also be both official campaigns: Britain Stronger in Europe and Vote Leave, both of whom will have stalls in the college and will be on hand to answer any further questions audience members may have after the debate.
