St Leonards beach given Blue Flag award

St Leonards beach has been rated as one of the country’s best beaches after winning a Blue Flag award.

The Marina beach is one of more than 70 beaches in England to be awarded Blue Flag status this year.

It was also one of 15 winners in the south east to get the award.

The Blue Flag award recognises beaches for being clean, safe and having an excellent water quality.

The Marina beach, as well as Hastings’ Pelham beach, also received the Seaside Award.

This award recognises the high standards of facilities the beaches have to offer visitors to the seafront.

Cllr Paul Barnett, deputy leader of Hastings Borough Council said: “It’s great to see these beaches retaining these awards for another year. The council is dedicated to keeping our beaches clean and ensuring the bathing water is of high quality, and it’s good to see this hard work being acknowledged.

“It’s especially important to receive these awards now coming up to this summer in which Hastings is set to see a huge amount more ‘staycationers’ than usual as Covid restrictions ease.

“These awards show that our beaches are some of the cleanest and safest in the country, as well as having a good standard of facilities, which gives peace of mind to both tourists and residents.

“We also want to reach out to both residents and visitors to please play your own your part in protecting our environment. Please use the bins provided for your litter or take it home with you.”
