Roll out of paid-for garden waste collections to start

People can start signing up for the controversial paid-for green waste collections from next week.

By the end of May 2013, householders wanting to continue with fortnightly collections of garden waste will need to have paid £29 for the service by registering with Horsham District Council.

People wishing to join the service can contact HDC from February 18 for a membership sticker, which they are required to display on their brown topped bin for it to be emptied.

To allow sufficient time for residents to sign up in the first year we will continue to empty their bins throughout April and May 2013.

From the June 1 2013 if they do not have a sticker displayed on their bin it will not be emptied.

The annual charge will cover the period up until March 2014. Replacement or additional bins will be available to buy and the cost of emptying each additional bin is fixed at £15 for the same period.

Full details about how to sign up and FAQs will be available at www.horsham.gov.uk/gwsignup from February 18. People can call 01403 739459 for further information.
