MEMBERS of the Muslim community hosted a barbecue party in St Leonards to celebrate the end of a month of fasting.

Hastings mosque, based in Mercatoria, St Leonards saw up to 300 visitors come, Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

Councillor Jeremy Birch, leader of Hastings Borough Council, handed out medals for those who took part in the Quran recitation competition.

The event was to mark Eid, a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

Faisal Mazmul Hoque, president of East Sussex Islamic Association, said: “We had quite a large gathering as we sent out a lot of invites. It was the first time we held a public gathering. I would like to thank everyone for taking part and coming along.”
