THE East Sussex Branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild has had an extremely busy and interesting three months commencing in March with a one-day workshop covering whitework embroidery led by Sophie Long.
During our regular monthly March meeting we took a trip down memory lane viewing slides and some of the branch archives to identify people and places.
Our speaker in April was Sass Tetzlaff, a local textile artist and former member of the branch who entertained us with a very interesting talk covering the research and development journey of making a triptych of award winning textile pictures. Sass bought along samples of her work to admire and to be inspired by.
Bridget Barber a member from the Tunbridge Wells branch visited us in May and bought along a selection of the original samples of hand embroidery stitches commissioned by Constance Howard for her book entitled The Constance Howard Book of Stitches.
Our next monthly meeting will be tomorrow (Saturday) commencing at 1.45pm in St Peter’s Community Centre and our speaker will be Mary Kitson giving an illustrated talk entitled Fans from the Royal Courts of Europe.
We welcome visitors to our branch and if you would like further details of our forthcoming events or becoming a member please contact our Secretary Brenda Amberge on 01424 731371.
