Eleven points of objection

Bognor Regis Town Council has 11 points of objection to the regeneration proposals. They are:

The number of flats had gone from being enough to pay for the leisure elements to dominating the redevelopment.

The proposed tower block will do nothing to attract visitors.

Building the tower block on the sunken gardens next to the Hothamton car park will worsen the lack of open space.

Retail units proposed for Hothamton had all but vanished to still leave Bognor with a severe shortage of shops.

The combined theatre/cinema would not attract people to the town or encourage more residents to stay here.

The proposed closure of The Esplanade could strangle the traffic life out of Bognor. It would be acceptable only if firm proposals for tested alternatives, such as opening the High Street, were considered.

Claims enough parking would be provided to meet demands of residents of the flats were unconvincing;

Too little office space was included to encourage other employers to move into the town.

No public benefit existed in moving the library.

Consideration should be given to the interests of the fishermen in any new-look seafront.

Buildings in Steyne Street should stay.
