An “inspirational” nursery has been rated outstanding after its first Ofsted inspection in seven years.
The Artemis Nursery, in Chapel Park Road, St Leonard’s-on-Sea, was visited by inspector Anna Kersley on June 2 and her findings were published on June 23.
Ms Kersley was impressed with the relationship between staff and children and the “challenging” opportunities to learn which were offered to the youngsters.
She said: “The shared vision of high-quality teaching means children receive exemplary care in an inspirational learning environment.”
Artemis manager Lee Buggy said the comment summed up the ethos of the nursery – a message staff had been sharing since their last inspection in 2008 also received top marks.
Lee added: “It’s amazing. We are so pleased that we can be recognised as being outstanding once again in Hastings. While we knew our teaching reflected an outstanding level, we were waiting for Ofsted to come out and confirm that.”

Ms Kersley highlighted the efforts made by staff to identify each child’s interests, needs and strengths and to adapt their activities to match.
Praising the high quality teaching she had observed, she said it had ensured “all children make good or exceptional progress from their starting points”.
Lee was delighted to see the Artemis staff praised and said: “They work really long hours and really put their heart and soul into their work. It’s a proper vocation to them – they really love what they do.”
Artemis is very much a family affair, with Lee’s husband Dominic and sister-in-law Emma also running two other nurseries in the area.
