The recent Hastings International Food Festival has been acclaimed as a great success.

It started off in a lively fashion on Saturday March 19, with the “Whizzer Chefs” from world-famous street art company, Circo Rum Ba Ba, surprising shoppers at Priory Meadow with their wacky and wonderful performance.

Jessie Lawrence, 18, from DV8 in Bexhill, who was doing work experience at 18 Hours, covered the festival and said: “One of the passers-by commented that it was quite a spectacle watching the Chefs at work.

“They were funny and unusual and brightened up an ordinary shopping trip.”

“The festival was a celebration of that thing we all love, food, said Mandy Curtis, whose company, 18 Hours, supports Hastings Borough Council with production of the annual event.

“In Hastings we have a brilliant range of top quality international restaurants and Eat Global had the aim of encouraging people to go somewhere new and try something different.”

The Eat Global booklet that was produced provided food lovers with information about the taste-bud seducing festival menus, special offers and exciting entertainments in cafes and restaurants around town. It also listed special featured shops where people could buy food from around the world and cook global too.”

Eat Global also had a wide range of delicious options for vegans, vegetarians, pescetarians and those on gluten or dairy-free diets.

Other highlights of the festival included live music with Peter Grofalo and adult and child cookery lessons at Classroom on the Coast.

There was also traditional Thai dancing and a Chimichanga Night.

Cllr Kim Forward said: “I am really pleased that Hastings Borough Council was able to promote the ethnic diversity of our town through the Eat Global Festival.
