Drunk threatened to kill girlfiend in 999 call

A MAN called police to his Sedlescombe home telling them he was going to kill his girlfriend.

Martin Knight was finally arrested after struggling with officers and being Captor sprayed at the East View Terrace address back on February 10.

Knight, 37, now living at Tinkers Lane, Ticehurst, pleaded guilty to obstructing police when he appeared at Hastings Magistrates Court last week.

He also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of being drunk and disorderly on April 13 when he urinated in a police station.

Jeremy King, prosecuting, said; “Police got a 999 call from Knight at 10.45pm on February 10 when he told them “You better get here quick before I kill my bird”.

“The officers arrived on the scene and he told them to go away.

“Police forced their way into the house and were confronted with Knight brandishing a wooden stool.

“He was Captor sprayed by police, which had no affect and was then tackled to the ground and a struggle ensued.

“There was a female in the property who was clearly distressed.

“She later refused to give a statement to police or to have anything more to do with the matter.

“On April 13 Knight went into the transport police station at Brighton railway station and started to urinate in the corner. He was clearly drunk.

“He has 17 previous convictions, including for violence and public order offences, and was sentenced to 18 months in prison for robbery.”

Judy Tamony, defending, said: “He realises how foolish his behaviour has been.

“He and his partner had been living together for years and it was believed she had lung cancer, which put a lot of additional strain on their relationship. There were arguments and he admits he has a drink problem.

“He felt frustrated as his partner wanted him out of the house. Emotions were running high.”

Magistrates adjourned sentencing to await pre-sentence reports from the probation service and said they were keeping all options open, excluding custody.
