Selsey Lifeboat press officer Dave Fotheringham said: 'The event well very well. I spoke to the crew and they said they had been well looked after.

'The weather was right for the helicopter to do the display close inshore.'

The rescue was the highlight of a social evening at the yacht club with a beach barbecue.

Some 718 was raised on the night for the RNLI through donations and the sale of merchandise, to the delight of the charity's supporters.
