Thanks to funding from West Sussex County Council work finished on the first phase of Horsham District Council’s project to enhance the street through new yellow paving in November 2013.

Out of the scheme’s total £691,111 budget, £45,000 is set to be spent on lighting, £30,000 on an audio system, £40,000 on planters, £40,000 on a business facade improvement scheme, and £102,500 on way-finding.

Helena Croft (Con, Roffey North), HDC’s cabinet member for communication, Horsham town, and special projects, said: “I’m looking forward to seeing Phase Two of the West Street project come forward, which will be focused mainly around the planting and greening of the street.

“We have had very positive feedback from businesses and residents who are enjoying the fresh new feel in West Street and Phase Two will enhance this further.”

The majority of costs are covered by kick-starter funding from the county council, but HDC also contributed £100,000 of match funding.

A spokesperson for HDC said the next phase of works was not as time sensitive as the first.

The council would be involving Horsham in Bloom in the street planting, and said that final details on the audio system and way-finding had yet to be agreed.
