DEREK RECEIVES ORDER OF 1066 AWARD

DEREK Norcross has been honoured as the 2004 winner of the Order of 1066 Award.

He was the unanimous choice of the selection panel.

Derek is well known for his varied interests including the Tuesday Club founded by Ryder Haggard, the Grey Owl Society and "Tomorrow's People". Associated interests are held about Robert Tressell and Thomas Paine.

As headteacher at St Paul's Primary School '“ then the largest Primary School in the Borough '“ he encouraged and trained all children to realise their full musical potential.

Derek has supported the Hastings Musical Festival, is a former Musical Director of the Hastleons, a past President of Hastings Rotary Club, President of Opera South East and is currently Chair of St Michael's Hospice.

In 1992 he was elected to East Sussex County Council and became Chair of Education for four years, followed by election as Chairman of the County.

He is also a member of the Winkle Club.
