Curious kitten gets stuck in engine bay

This little chap must have used up one of his nine lives when he managed to get stuck in a car engine bay.

The curious kitty was found hiding in a vehicle in the Ravenside Retail Park in Bexhill on Monday (September 21).

The team from Elva Recovery, based in St Leonards, were called to rescue the hapless feline from the engine bay.

Tim Hay, recovery coordinator at Elva, said: “I have been here quite a few years now and I do not remember ever going to something like this before.

“I know it is fairly common in the breakdown industry itself as obviously animals always try and find somewhere to shelter.”

Luckily the kitten appeared unharmed by the experience.

Tim said: “It was just a little bit shaken up and a little bit bemused by it all.

“Once we got him we contacted our vets, Senlac at Battle, and they said bring him over and we will keep him here until the owner is traced.

“He is missing his family and he wants to go home.”

But there is a twist in the tale as three more kittens from the same litter have also been taken to the Senlac Veterinary Practice.

The four boys are thought to be around seven weeks old.

By Wednesday morning the kittens’ owner had yet to be traced as the four have not been microchipped.

The vehicle where the first kitten was found was previously parked in Ninfield, so it is thought the owners could be from the village.

Rhiain Coundley, a nurse at Senlac vets, said the kittens are doing well.

She said: “All the kittens are healthy, we are worming them and they are eating well.

“We legally have to keep them for seven days in case they are claimed, but if not we have pretty much got homes lined up for them anyway.”
