Woman, 35, sexually assaulted on way home

A LONE woman has been subjected to a vicious sexual assault.

The attack happened in Magdalen Road, St Leonards, at about 2.35am on Saturday morning (August 6) when the 35-year-old was walking home, having been out with friends during the Hastings Pirate Day festivities in the town centre.

A man attacked her from behind and after a struggle during which he sexually assaulted on her, he ran off.

The woman was left with cuts and bruises but did not need hospital treatment.

Police said the attacker is white, aged between 30 and 50years old, about 5ft 4 to 8ins tall, of average build, and had thin mousey coloured hair.

He wore a black ski-style jacket.

Saturday’s attack is the third sexual assault in the borough within a month but police say they are unrelated.

Detective Sergeant Julie Gable, who is investigating Saturday’s attack, said: “The victim was severely shocked by this vicious attack.

“It appears that her struggles and screams may have put the man off and we hope local people may have heard and then seen something as the man ran off towards the town centre.

“This was an isolated incident, which we are not connecting to any other crimes, and we are keen to hear from anyone who has any information.”
