Teenagers set upon in park robbery

TWO teenagers were subjected to a vicious, unprovoked attack in the park which ended with one of them being hurled into the boating lake.

The victims, both 18, were with friends in Alexandra Park on the night of Friday, March 11, when they were approached by a gang of six youths all wearing hooded tops. They demanded the men hand over cigarettes and when they failed to do so, set upon them in a frenzied assault, punching them repeatedly in the face.

One of the victims suffered two very swollen black eyes, a suspected broken nose and had a tooth loosened. He managed to get away and escape with his friends but the other teenager was punched in the face and then thrown into the lake. Both men were taken to the Conquest Hospital for treatment with the second man suffering from shock because of the cold water. One of the men had a red Sony Ericsson mobile phone stolen during the incident.

Now detectives want to speak to anyone who was in the park between 9pm and 11pm, anyone who saw the assault or anyone who might know who this gang is. Detective Constable Chris Varrall of Hastings Police said: “This was an unprovoked and violent robbery and those responsibly need to be caught. Police are working hard to locate the individuals involved, however we need anyone with information to please come forward.”

The gang are all said to be white, of average build and between five feet five and five feet seven inches tall.

DC Varrall can be contacted on 0845 6070999 or anyone with information can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
