Teenager took car after being given a lift

A TEENAGER stole a car after the owner gave him a lift.

Stefan Gilmore, 18, of Mendip Gardens was driven to Ore last Monday (March 14) but when the owner stopped to get something at the Co-op in Fairlight Road the jobless teenager drove off after the keys were left in the ignition.

He was later arrested by police in the afternoon.

Gilmore was stopped by officers outside the Robert de Mortain pub on The Ridge.

There were three teenage girls in the car.

Police had to break the VW Golf’s window to arrest Gilmore as he was locked inside.

He was charged with taking the car without consent and remanded in custody before appearing before Hastings magistrates the next morning, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Gilmore was given a four-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and was disqualified from driving for one year.
