A St Leonards man has been charged with stealing £48,000 worth of watches from gyms in central London.

John William Francis Fletcher, of Church Road, has been charged with 12 offences of theft following an investigation by the City of London Police.

The 43-year-old man was arrested in Scotland by City officers on Tuesday (October 4).

The charges are in connection with a series of thefts of expensive watches from gyms in the City of London, worth a total value of £47,890.

Fletcher appeared at North Cumbria Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Wednesday, October 4) and is next due to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on November 4, where the case has been committed for sentence.
