St Leonards man charged following violent incident in Hastings flat

A St Leonards man who was wanted by police on suspicion of offences including assault and criminal damage has now been arrested and charged, police have confirmed.

Police said they had wanted to interview Romany Burns, from St Leonards, following a violent incident at a flat in Hastings in January.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Burns, 27, unemployed and of no fixed address, appeared in custody at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 16 April.”

Police said he has been charged with coercive control in a relationship, two counts of assault by beating, two counts of witness intimidation, one count of causing actual bodily harm and a count of criminal damage.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges, police said, and was remanded in custody to appear at the same court on April 23.
