A TAXI driver has been banned from driving after he was caught speeding in St Leonards.

Timothy Noye, 40, of Charles Road, was driving his taxi up Harley Shute Road on November 23 when he was caught by a police speed trap travelling at 53mph in a 30mph zone.

Noye, who is currently signed off sick, pleaded guilty to one charge of speeding at a hearing at Hastings Magistrates Court.

Noye had previously been given points for speeding in August 2010 and 2008.

Noye said: “I was at the bottom of Harley Shute Road.

“There is a steep incline at the bottom of the hill and you have to accelerate to get up the hill.

“On this occasion I did not stop accelerating after the hill and the police were at the top.”

Noye was fined £75 and ordered to pay £43 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

He was given six penalty points and disqualified from driving for six months under the ‘totting’ system.
