Slovakians assaulted in racially-motivated attack on Hastings seafront

A GROUP of Slovakians have been assaulted in Hastings in what police believe was a racially-motivated incident.

The Slovakians were attacked outside the Pig in Paradise at White Rock at just before midnight while sitting on the beach. The men had been waiting for a friend when, according to Sussex Police, several men began to make abusive comments, some of which were racially offensive, while kicking gravel at them.

A 36-year-old man sustained cuts and grazes, a 29-year-old man was punched to the head but sustained no injury, and another man had a minor face injury.

The Slovakians then walked off the beach and up the steps from the seafront but were followed by the group who then assaulted three of them before running off.

The incident happened on Saturday, May 26, but police have only today released details. They report that an 18-year-old local man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of common assault and released on police bail until July 6 pending further enquiries.

Police have condemned the incident and they are appealing for witnesses. PC Diane Browne said: “Fortunately the injuries were very minor but this was an unpleasant incident and we are keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who has any other information. Please call us on 101 quoting serial 2079 of 26 May.
