Police issue appeal after horse dies in Ashburnham

Police are appealing for witnesses following the death of a horse in Ashburnham.

Officers are investigating reports of a horse being attacked by a dog in Ponts Green on Thursday (11 June), Sussex Police said.

A spokesman added: “The incident is believed to have happened in the early hours of the morning.

“The horse - who was pregnant - sustained severe puncture wounds consistent with dog bites. Sadly, she had to be put down following the attack.”

The Rural Crime Team has visited the location and made contact with the victim.

PC Giancarlo Leone from the Rural Crime Team said: “This is a truly distressing incident for the victim and family.

“We recognise the impact this has on them as well as the wider community.

“We urge anyone with information that could assist our enquiries to come forward.

“With our combined passion for protecting rural communities and animals we are determined to help prevent further incidents and assist in bringing offenders to justice.”
