Passenger punched in face while on bus

POLICE want to trace two Good Samaritans who stepped in when a young woman was attacked on a bus.

The violent assault took place last Thursday after the 24-year-old victim boarded the bus at the London Road end of Tower Road, St Leonards, at about 3.15pm.

She was sitting near the front when another woman came down the aisle, grabbed the woman by her hair and punched her in the face.

A female passenger intervened and pulled the attacker off her but in the melee the suspect managed to grab the victim’s mobile phone and then ran off up Battle Road, St Leonards, where the bus had pulled over.

Another passenger jumped up and chased the woman up the street, and managed to get the phone back before returning it to the victim.

The woman was left with a cut lip, bruises to her face and a red eye after the attack, and was understandably quite shaken up by it.

Now police want to hear from the two people who came to the woman’s rescue and anyone else who was on the bus and saw what happened. Anyone with information should contact PC Jane Donnelly on 0845 6070999.
