‘Mistake’ to pocket cocaine found on floor outside pub

FINDING a bag of cocaine outside a pub landed a man in court.

Callum Armstrong-Smith said “It was all a big mistake” when he pleaded guilty to being in possession of cocaine at Hastings Magistrates Court last week.

Armstrong-Smith, 22, of Upper Maze Hill, St Leonards, was stopped by police in the town centre on February 12.

Mark Kateley, prosecuting, said: “Police saw a group of men in a doorway at Middle Street at around 1am.

“A search revealed a small bag of white powder, which was later found to be cocaine.

“He said he had found it and that it was for his own personal use. It was a very small amount.”

Armstrong-Smith told the court: “I found it in the town on the floor outside a pub and picked it up.

“I don’t do drugs normally – it was a big mistake really,” he added.

Magistrates fined him £100 and ordered him to pay £85 costs.
