Man arrested in Bexhill on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs

Officers stopped the vehicle in Barnhorn Road, Bexhill, near The Wheatsheaf pub, on Friday afternoon (July 9).

On Saturday morning, a spokesman for Sussex Police said a 50-year-old man from Bristol was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs.

He has been released under investigation, police added.

Sussex Police said 251 motorists across the county have been arrested on suspicion of drink or drug-driving during a month-long crackdown.

The dedicated campaign runs from June 11 to Sunday (July 11) and is in addition to routine roads policing which is in place every day of the year, police said.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Between April 2020 and March 2021, 291 people casualties were involved in a drink or drug-driving related collision in Sussex; three of these were fatal.

“During the same period, a total of 1,185 arrests were made for drink-driving in Sussex, and a further 1,135 for drug-driving.”
