Man arrested after armed police incident in St Leonards

A 31-year-old man was arrested after armed police were called to an incident in St Leonards, police have confirmed.

Officers responded to reports of a man behaving in an aggressive manner in Southwater Road, St Leonards, at 11.55am on Friday (October 23).

He was reported to have been threatening people and was said to be in possession of a knife.

Another man suffered minor injuries according to police.

Officers conducted a search of the area, including in Kenilworth Road, Silchester Road and Carisbrooke Road.

Later that day a 31-year-old man from St Leonards was arrested on suspicion of common assault, two counts of assault by beating, criminal damage and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, Sussex Police confirmed today (Tuesday, October 27).

He has been released on conditional bail until November 19 while enquiries continue, police said.
