Here are some of the most high profile sentencings, from late July through August, including a bomb hoax in Hailsham, an armed robbery with a meat cleaver and some harrowing accounts of sexual assaults made public by their extremely courageous victims. 5. Cameron Skilton
Cameron Skilton, 22, of London Road in Bexhill, was jailed for eight years on August 6 on charges relating to two separate incidents. He pleaded guilty to the robbery of a man in his car in Bexhill on August 18, 2018, as well as criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He was also convicted of assault and theft after an attack on a man in Holliers Hill, Bexhill, on May 31, 2020. Along with Reece Ripley, who also appears in this gallery, and an unnamed 15-year-old, Skilton attacked the man and stole his headphones and £250 cash. All three were caught less than an hour later. He was sentenced to two years and four months in jail, to run concurrently with the eight-year sentence for the 2018 robbery. SUS-200109-142333001
6. Reece Ripley
Reece Ripley, 20, of Glovers Lane in Bexhill, was jailed for 18 months for his part of an assault in Bexhill on May 31, 2020. Along with Cameron Skilton, mentioned in this gallery, and an unnamed 15-year-old boy, Ripley passed a pedestrian in a yellow Audi three times, before stopping and assaulting him. The trio stole the victim's headphones and £250 cash. They were stopped less than an hour later in St Leonards and arrested. Ripley, unemployed, pleaded guilty to assault and jailed on August 6. 7. Domeniko Dedaj
27-year-old Domeniko Dedaj, of Kingsland Road in Worthing, allowed officers searching for stolen sports equipment to enter his home on June 11. They found £27,000 of cash hidden around the property and around 1.2kg of cocaine in a wardrobe, some of which had been wrapped in lottery tickets. He was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison after being charged with money laundering and possession with intent to supply cocaine. SUS-200109-142343001
8. Joseph Firminger
Joseph Firminger, of the Diplocks, Hailsham, was jailed for 27 months on August 3 after a bomb hoax in Hailsham that saw hundreds of residents evacuated. On January 28, 2019, he reported a suspicious package on a wall, found by police to be a metal tin covered in black tape with wires coming out of it. Bomb specialists placed a 400m cordon and 200 people were evacuated, but it was found to be a fake. A search of Ferminger's house found wiring and tools linked to the hoax. Incriminating internet searches were also found on his phone and his DNA on the 'bomb'. He pleaded guilty to placing a hoax bomb with intent and communicating false information about a hoax bomb.
