Hastings man arrested after rape

A Hastings man has been arrested after a woman reported being raped in Robertson’s Passage early Wednesday morning (September 2).

The 24-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of rape and released on bail until 2 December.

The 22-year-old victim was found in a distressed state in nearby Robertson Street by police.

Detective Inspector Rob Morland said: “The victim and suspect are known to each other.

“We believe they were arguing loudly in Robertson’s Passage which is off Robertson Street and this woke a number of residents.

“We would like to hear from anyone who heard or saw them in this area around 2am.”
