A CARE assistant caught drink driving claimed he only had only consumed one pint of beer that day.
Dumisani Ncube, 31, of Marina, St Leonards, was spotted by police at around 10.30pm on The Green on July 2.
They noticed his eyes were glazed and his breath smelt strongly of alcohol, a recent court hearing heard.
Jeremy King, prosecuting, said Ncube only had a provisional licence.
Ncube pleaded guilty to drink driving and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence.
Ronan Crummy, defending, said: “He has had a full Zimbabwean licence for 12 years but he only has a provisional licence for the UK.
“He had one pint of beer that day but had drunk the evening before and can only assume there was still alcohol inside him from the day before.”
Magistrates banned Ncube from driving for 12 months, fined him £150 and ordered £85 costs.
