A FIRESTARTING couple who went on a rampage attacking cars in 1066 Country have been jailed.
Robert Kelly, 26, and his 18-year-old girlfriend Lucy Gower, both of Dell Close, St Leonards, admitted setting 15 cars alight during October and November last year. Residents and businesses were targeted in the spree, and the pair were arrested after a routine stop and search of their car in the Rye area.
Both admitted four counts of arson and stealing a CD player from one of the vehicles and they asked for 11 other arson offences to be taken into account. The case was sent to Lewes Crown Court for sentencing where Dell was jailed for three years, and Gower was sent to prison for 15 months.
PC Duncan Clverley of Hastings Police welcomed the court’s decision. He said: “Kelly and Gower brought misery to many families when they went on their spree of pointless arson to these cars. A custodial sentence is entirely appropriate in this case.”
