Attempted knifepoint robbery in St Leonards

Police are investigating an attempted robbery reported to them as having taken place at around 9.15pm on Friday (18 December) in King’s Road, St Leonards.

A woman in her 40s was walking towards the town’s Warrior Square railway station carrying a Carphone Warehouse branded bag when this was grabbed at by a man who approached from behind.

As she struggled to keep hold of the bag, the suspect assaulted her with the knife leaving her bruised and scratched.

The woman fell to the ground, sustaining facial injuries, and the man fled empty-handed in the direction of the A2102 London Road.

He is described as black, aged around 18 or 19, 5’ 10”, of slim build, wearing a dark padded jacket, black jeans hung low from the waist and a black balaclava.

Detective Constable Chris Milner, of Hastings CID, said: “King’s Road was busy at the time, with both people and vehicles passing by, and so we’re keen to hear from anyone who may have seen what happened or who may have other information about the incident.”
