Arrest after car found abandoned on railway tracks

A man has been arrested after a car was abandoned on the level crossing in Crawley High Street.

British Transport Police and Sussex Police were called to the railway line On Thursday (January 30) at around 9.50pm after reports of an empty car parked on the tracks.

Passengers faced long delays while the car was removed.

The line was handed back to Network Rail at about 11.15pm.

This afternoon (Monday February 3), BTP confirmed they had made an arrest.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “A 43-year-old man from Crawley has been arrested on suspicion of endangering safety of train passengers.

“This follows a report of a vehicle on the tracks at High Street, Crawley level crossing at 9.51pm on Thursday January 30.

“He has been released on bail until Monday, 3 March.”
