Crime commissioner to visit St Leonards

THE HEAD of Sussex Police will be visiting St Leonards today (Friday) to talk to locals about their views on crime across the town after being invited by the Observer.

Katy Bourne, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Sussex, will be at the junction of Kings Road from 2.30pm, weather permitting. If it is raining, she will be in the Alpha Café, opposite St Leonards Warrior Square train station.

And after the meeting she will be joining officers from the neighbourhood policing team to head out on patrol to see first-hand how issues are tackled locally.

Speaking ahead of the visit, she said: “Earlier this year this newspaper extended an open invitation to come and visit Hastings and St Leonards to engage with the community and listen to local people.

“I am delighted to let your readers know that I will be in St Leonards on Friday to talk to residents and businesses about their experiences and views on local policing and crime in the area.

“The ethos of the role of police and crime commissioner embodies the spirit of localism and, for the first time ever, really gives people in Sussex the opportunity to set priorities for local policing.

“That is why I would like to meet as many residents as possible to hear their thoughts and experiences of policing and crime. I would like to ensure an ongoing dialogue with members of the public and encourage greater participation in determining local policing priorities.

“I am aware of the local concerns in and around the St Leonards area and look forward to speaking with residents and businesses about what more can be done to help tackle these issues.”
