CRICKETER Elliot Hooper was bowled over when he was nominated for October’s Outstanding Young Person of the Month Award.

The 17-year-old, who lives in Hastings, plays for Hastings and St Leonards Priory Cricket Club and attends St Bede’s School in Hailsham.

Elliot is an under 17 member of the well-established Sussex League Premier side and has grown into an outstanding cricketer. His skills have contributed to the team winning the Sussex T20 competition and achieving a good position in the Sussex Premier Cricket League. The talented sportsman has also gone on to play for the Sussex Academy XI and The Sussex Cricket Board.

Elliot was nominated by Judy Perkins, honorary secretary at the cricket club, who said: “Elliot is a valued member of the team and club, and popular with players and spectators both on and off the field.”

The Outstanding Young Person of the Month award is sponsored by Spectrum Financial Services and the Hastings Observer. Every month, we recognise someone aged 18 or under who has either excelled in sport, exceeded expectations in their academic studies, or has performed an important role on a voluntary basis in their own home or the wider community. Elliot will now receive a complimentary meal for two and £100 will be donated to the cricket club.

Geoff Fillery, director of operations at Spectrum, said: “Elliot is clearly passionate about cricket and he’s an asset to the sport. I was delighted to present him with the Outstanding Young Person of the Month Award and will look forward to following his progress in the future.”
