A COUPLE are hosting a 60s style party next week to mark their Golden wedding anniversary.

Norman and Christine Rushbrook, of Ochiltree Close, decided to organise the event next Saturday (June 8) as three other members of the Rushbrook family have all previously reached 50 years of marital bliss.

Norman’s brother, Ron and his wife Diana, of Erith in Kent, have been married for 55 years, his other brother Keith and his wife Sylvia, of Bexleyheath, Kent, tied the knot 52 years ago, and Brenda Parsfield, nee Rushbrook, and her husband Kenneth, who live in Plumstead, married 52 years ago.

Norman said: “For so many of us in our family to have reached their Golden wedding anniversary is very unique.

“All of us will be there at the party at the Manor Barn in Bexhill which is on the theme of Dreamboats and Petticoats.

“On the Sunday (June 9) we are holding a barbecue based on the theme of a Hawaii beach party.”

Norman met Christine via her brother, his best friend, when he was 11. They started dating when he was 17 before getting engaged in Christmas 1962. They tied the knot on June 8, 1963 in Erith, where they lived. Two years later the couple moved to Sidcup, where they lived for 22 years. The couple, who have two grown-up children, Graham and Tracy-Anne, came to Hastings in 1986.

Norman, 68, is a financial adviser and runs Options Property Management in Queens Road.

When they married in 1963 the couple honeymooned in Alassio in Italy. As a treat to celebrate their Golden wedding anniversary their children paid for them to go there on holiday this month.
