County Plea to Prescott to think again

Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott is being urged by West Sussex County Council to think again about proposed Government planning reforms because they could result in the county being hit by a housing development double whammy.

The proposed reform of planning controls on the release of new land for housing could see even more houses being built in the county, leading to loss of more of our countryside.

In addition, proposals to introduce Plannign Gain Supplement, a tax on development, means money that should be available to back up high levels of new housing development wanted by the Government with extra facilities, such as schools, medical facilities, roads, could be siphoned off to pay for inrastructure elsewhere in the country.
