The cause of the fire is still unknown, but is believed to have started in a store room or utility room at the rear of the Belle Isle restaurant, which is part of the same building as the Travelodge.

A room on the second floor was damaged but most of the devastation was on the third floor – with four or five rooms damaged.

Ten fire engines were at the scene at its height, as well as the fire brigade’s recently-bought aerial ladder platform.
