A FORMER mayor held a Jubilee party to raise money for two charities.
Councillor Maureen Charlesworth hosted the event at Azur, Marina Pavilion, on Sunday, June 10.
More than 100 people attended and a special Jubilee Grace was spoken by Helen Bird, MBE.
The guest of honour was Sara Stoner, Vice Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, who gave a brief speech outlining her duties.
Other guests included Baroness Fookes, national president of SSAFA Forces Help, one of the charities the party was in aid of, John Kimber, area chairman for the Royal British Legion, and Brion Purdey, chairman of St Augustine’s Federation of Excellence (SAFE), the other charity the event was in aid of.
Cllr Charlesworth said: “It was a lovely afternoon and everyone enjoyed themselves. We raised between £600 and £700 which will be split between SSAFA and SAFE.
“I would like to thank my committee, especially those who provided raffle prizes, sold raffle tickets and made patriotic button holes. I would also like to thank Azur for its excellent service.”
SAFE is holding a Jubilee tea on July 1 at the Arthur Easton Centre at St Michael’s Hospice.
