Council’s new contact centre goes into action

THE council’s new contact centre is now up and running, and staff have already started answering queries from the public at the new centre at the town hall over the phone and face-to-face.

Hastings Borough Council (HBC) started working on the new centre early last year so all enquiries for all of its services could be based at one location.

Kevin Boorman, the authority’s head of communications and marketing, told a council cabinet meeting on Monday: “On the day of the opening 78 per cent of all calls were answered within 10 seconds and 90 per cent within 20 seconds, which is a really good figure. It also shows that the staff training was successful.”

Staff currently deal with inquiries related to the tourist information centre, waste services and planning issues.

Mr Boorman said: “Enquiries from the council’s other departments will come under the new contact centre over the next 12 months.”
