A COMMUNITY hall in St Leonards has been transformed thanks to the volunteers on housing association AmicusHorizon’s DIY SOS scheme.

The team completely redecorated Concordia Hall, in Church Road, repairing the fire doors and creating and painting a projection area.

They held a celebration lunch at the hall following completion of the project.

The DIY SOS programme offers unemployed and low-waged volunteers the opportunity to learn DIY and decorating skills over a five-week course.

They meet in community venues for four hours twice a week and learn tips and techniques they can use at home and to gain employment. The programme is in its second year and Concordia Hall is the sixth community venue where work has been completed.

Mike Edwards, hall steward, said: “Congratulations to all the volunteers who did a superb job. Our last refurbishment was 15 years ago, so thank you to all the volunteers.” All participants were presented with certificates of achievement, home decorating kits and vouchers to use at Brewers.
